Episode 50: John Bell on his fascinating new book on Shakespeare and leadership, “Some Achieve Greatness”
Not many people know and understand Shakespeare and his works as well as Australia’s great thespian, John Bell. Here he talks with Nicole about his brilliant new book, Some Achieve Greatness , which contains wonderful advice on leadership that he has gleaned from his close study of Shakespeare over more than 50 years. They discuss the qualities of a good leader – courage, decisiveness, humility and integrity – and a bad one – arrogance and entitlement. All with reference to the main protagonists in Shakespeare’s greatest plays – Macbeth, King Lear, Henry V, Hamlet and Portia. John’s idea of good leadership? “Benign despotism.”
